Falling into Fall

Falling into Fall

We have had a mild summer here in Georgia…very mild. There have been only a sprinkling of  hot days, probably less than a hand full and they weren’t even what we Georgians classify as HOOOOOTTTT. I mean you couldn’t even fry an egg on the sidewalk for goodness sakes. But the best term for this summer should not be mild, the term should be w.e.t. I feel like we live in Seattle now and not Georgia. Although, that is not even accurate because we have gotten more rain than them this year. Who knew! We should now be called the wet, rainy state. I am not complaining though, I have actually enjoyed it. Yes, even the rain. 🙂 I do not like hot weather unless I am at the beach or the pool. Other than that, you all can have the usual hot and sticky Georgia summer. This summer has been great and even though it’s still technically summer, the temps have been more fall-like especially this past week.

And I love Fall! It is and most likely always will be my favorite season. The crispness in the air, the falling leaves, the cool weather – I love it all!

This post is going to be about our family’s Top 5 Favorite Fall Activities  because in my mind it is now Fall. Summer, while I have thoroughly enjoyed you this year, I am ready for my some yummy pumpkin rolls.

#1 Favorite Fall activity – Rooting on the Georgia Bulldogs. I mean come on, you had to know that would be #1 in our family. 🙂

#2 – Pumpkin Pickin’. We have two favorite pumpkin patchs that we love to visit. Our schedule usually dictates which one we make it to each year. The first is quick drive from our house and always has great pumpkins and fun farm activities, like pig races and who doesn’t enjoy that.  Washington Farms is located in Watkinsville, GA and is great for us because it’s less than 30 minutes from our house but even if you live further it would be worth the drive. Corn mazes, petting zoo, hayride, corn cannon, jumping pillow, pumpkins and did I mention pig races?!?

Our 2nd favorite pumpkin pickin’ place is Burt’s Farm in Dawsonville, GA. It is about an hour and a half from our house, so we have to plan our day around going there. It is definitely worth the drive, plus, you get to see the gorgeous fall leaves while driving through North Georgia. They don’t have farm activities, sorry no pig races, but they have an abundance of pumpkins in any size you want and a hayride. I actually believe their hayride is one of the best, well, at least that I have ever been on. It takes you through their farm, winding through the hills and at the top you can catch a glimpse of Amicalola Falls, all while enjoying the crisp fall air and beautiful fall foliage.

You even drive through a creek on the hayride at Burt’s Farm!

They have some HUGE pumpkins that make great photo props. No sitting allowed but they look great in the background!

Burt’s Farm 2009. Check out those huge pumpkins!

Before you leave Burt’s pick up one of their yummy Pumpkin Rolls, you will not be disappointed. Yum-O!

#3 Favorite Fall Activity – Corn Mazes. Need I say more?!? They are a great family activity and so much fun, no matter the ages of your kids or even if you don’t have kids. We have been to several different corn mazes and don’t really have a favorite. Last year we went to North Georgia Corn Maze using a Groupon or Living Social deal (always check for those) and had a blast.

Hmm….which way do I go?!?

Beautiful fall backdrop.

#4 Hiking. I admit we don’t get to do this as often as we would like, our schedule is always overloaded, but Fall is the best time to hike (in our opinion 🙂 ). The weather is perfect and the scenery is just breathtaking.

On our to do list to hike in the Fall. Raven Cliff Falls in SC.

#5 And last but not least and really not last because there are so many more great Fall Activities but for this list #5 is last and thus so is… Fall Festivals. 🙂 We love Fall Festivals and Georgia has no shortage. So just close your eyes, spin around and throw a dart at a map of Georgia and you are bound to find a town with a Fall Festival. I can see it now craft booths, food vendors, petting zoos, oh my! We don’t have to wait much longer!!

Taken in 2008 at Oconee County’s annual Fall Festival. This year will be their 39th festival!

Now who is ready for Fall? I know this family is. Officially only a months wait but unofficially the temps are saying otherwise, at least this week.

And as always, no matter what you do – enjoy your family and create those wonderful lasting memories! Come on Fall, we are ReAdY!
